So my brother Jeff sent me some music the other day by a band called Muse. I had heard a song or 2 of theirs on the radio before, but did not recognize the name until after I had listened to what he sent me. After listening to Muse‘s Origin Of Symmetry and Showbiz I decided it would be worth it to pursue another album of theirs. I decided on The Resistance since it was their most recent album. Holy Crap! I was blown away. The Resistance is one of the best records I’ve heard in a long time. It has moments where this large wall of music just washes right over you! It is really great.
The track I’m posting is called Uprising. It is a really upbeat song, and I love the heavy beat it carries. Lyrically the song is outstanding. The message the song sends is thought provoking, and the music never lets up. I like this band a lot and look forward to hearing more of them. I would recommend that anyone who likes this song pick up the whole album. It is REALLY good. Thanks again Jeff!
This weeks song is by a guy named B.o.B . I don’t know what is up with his name, but his album is actually really good. It’s not really a traditional rap album. It seems to come more into the realm of pop than rap. Give this song a listen, and if you like it give the album a try. It’s got Eminem on it. Rivers Cuomo from Weezer on it (I like his song a lot, it was almost the song of the week this week.)
B.o.B‘s song this week features Hayley Williams of Paramore and her voice is just perfect for this song. It blends so well with the music, and the rapping. I don’t like Paramore a whole lot, but that has more to do with their music than Hayley’s voice.
So without further delay, here is B.o.B singing Airplanes (featuring Hayley Williams)
So now that I can upload MP3’s to the website I’ve decided to upload one a week. I can look back at some point in the future and see what I was listening to at the time. I think it will be neat, plus I might introduce some of my readers to some new music they haven’t heard before. My plan is to have an update every Friday since that is my day off and it gives me time to do it.
So I got an email today that had a picture in it that looked like this.
In the email was the information for me to pick up tickets in the pre-sale, before the tickets went on sale to the general public. This show is going to sell out fast, so I was ecstatic! I didn’t think the Smashing Pumpkins were going to be playing Reno on this tour they are doing right now. What is most special about this tour is that all the venue’s they are playing are very small. So the shows are very limited as to the number of people who can attend. It also means that there are no bad seats, and I will be VERY close to the stage. I am so incredibly excited about this. I can’t wait!
I’ve seen the Smashing Pumpkins once before, and when I saw them I had decent seats, but even if I end up at the back of the Knitting Factory (which I won’t) I’ll still be closer than I was the last time I saw them. The last time I saw Billy Corgan play guitar it was an amazing experience. I’ve never seen a better guitar player than him. It’s kind of sad that his albums don’t really do justice to what he is able to do live.
This is the song “Rill Rill” by the band Sleigh Bells. I’ve had the entire Sleigh Bells album Treats on repeat since I first heard it.
Information on the Sleigh Bells stolen from wikipedia
Based in Brooklyn, New York, the duo is composed of Derek E. Miller (songwriter, guitarist, producer) and Alexis Krauss (vocals). The duo met and formed in 2008, when Miller was waiting tables on Alexis and her mother at a neighborhood Brazilian restaurant. Miller mentioned he was looking for a female vocalist to work with on a musical project, for which Alexis’ mother immediately volunteered her.
So after a chat with my brother Jeff, I decided to post up what my current musical tastes are. These are the top artists I’ve been listening to the last 3 months, and how many times I’ve played a song of theirs. Lately I’ve been particularly enamored with Hank III and Sleigh Bells.
Yea, that’s right. another new sister. In case anyone isn’t aware, I’ve known for years that I had a sister that was never claimed by my dad. Well, half sister would be the correct term, but since all my siblings are half, I don’t make the distinction. Michelle is the sister that dad never claimed. She came to visit me one day sometime around 1995 (maybe? I’m not sure exactly what year, her oldest was still just a baby). She was looking for dad, and I guess wanted to let him know he had a grand-kid. I’m not too sure. We seemed to get along well for that 15 minutes or so that we talked. Then she left, and Continue reading →
On Saturday June 5th I went with a buddy of mine from church to go see the Flyleaf show here in town. I had purchased my ticket a couple of weeks before and was planning on picking it up at the will call window.
I’ve not disapeered from blogging, just had no time to write here. To recap:
Last 2 weeks I worked 10 days in a row with 1 day off
I did that so I could have Saturday the 29th of May off
The 29th of May through the 31st I was rolling around in the dirt south of Reno becoming a better marksman
The 1st I was so dead tired after work i passed out like 2 hours early.
The 2nd I had to write a music review for the newspaper.
So tonight I may relax, or I may work on my blog entry about the 29th through the 31st.
I also have a blog entry coming on how I do all the neat little tricks with wordpress, facebook, twitter, and livejournal.
I’ve started writing both the above mentioned blog entries but because of the stuff above haven’t had time to work on them much.
I also have 2 my 2 other projects.
So yea, been a bit busy lately. Hopefully it calms down soon!
