I’ve lived in Reno for about 2.5 years now, and complained because we have earthquakes all the time and I’ve never felt one. Today I felt one for the first time. It just happened. I was sitting here on my couch watching facebook on the TV. I felt rumbling beneath the couch, that’s exactly what it was, a rumble. I’m on a first floor apartment. Anyway it lasted for about 2 seconds, long enough for me to go “what was that?” to Ashley.
Then the dog came running into the house barking. I said “I think that was an earthquake”. Ashley and I went outside to see if anything had happened (fence falling, neighbor blowing something up, etc.) and everything was peaceful.
I found this website that tells about the quake. It was a magnitude 4.2, and it shows the location relative to Reno. I’m so excited about my first earthquake! Twitter and facebook people in this area both confirm they all felt it too.
An article about it:
