Got My New Schedule For My New Job

My new boss came and told me what my schedule will be on the new job. The first 2 weeks I’ll be in training mode, and I’ll be working 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Then the third week I’ll move to my permanent schedule which will be Monday through Thursday 8am to 5pm. Saturday 7am to 4pm. That will leave me with Friday and Sunday off. I’m not a big fan of having split days off like that, but I knew when I took the job that I would have split days off, so I’m not complaining too much. Plus now that I have paid days off I can take Saturday off and have a 3 day weekend.

Also today I got to see my new desk up stairs. I’ll be sitting next to what seem like friendly people. The entire team seemed very welcoming to me. They encouraged me to ask as many questions as possible, and to expect to be asking a lot of questions for a long time. They also mentioned that things are more laid back in their department. There is not points, or competing, or theft of other people’s work. (Theft of other people’s work is something that happens a lot in the sales environment I currently work in. Everybody does it, and everybody gets pissed off by it.

One thing I noticed about this group is that they seemed very tight knit. They actually seem to operate and function like an actual team, which is something I don’t see very often in the environment I’m in now. I suppose this might have something to do with the ultra-high competitive nature of the sales we do.

Having said that though I’ve come to love the competition we get into in the sales department. Several of my current co-workers and I are always goading each other about sales points. It’s all in good fun, but it is a lot of fun. I really enjoy the competition we have. I wonder how much I will miss that once it’s not there anymore.

On the other side of that coin though, I enjoy getting into the technical side of things. Seeing how the equipment we sell works. Getting to tinker with the equipment when it’s not working. This makes me very excited, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it and see how it works. I am a little nervous about the whole thing, but overall I can’t wait to dive in on Monday.
