My good friend A.C. Hall put out a request today for 2 sentence stories. He is running a nifty little publishing company called Hall Brothers Entertainment. They just got up and running last month. Well, at least they just announced it last month. Anyway, one of the stories I’ve been writing lately (ok, maybe not lately, but I’ll get to that in a second) is for an upcoming short story anthology they are going to be putting out.
In the mean time they are running some episodic fiction of their own on the website. They are also running what are called 2 sentence stories. Which is just what it sounds like. It’s an entire story in 2 sentences. One example in the email A.C. sent out goes like this:
“New guns, old guns, big guns, small guns, we’ve got all the guns you could ever need for all the things you could ever need to shoot.” The nearsighted customer took a slow step away from the counter and the overzealous gun salesman, realizing that this, in fact, wasn’t the “Fun Store”.
That story was written by A.C. himself. It amused me pretty well, and I didn’t ask his permission to reprint it, but I don’t think he will mind. (And if you do mind A.C. just let me know and I’ll take it down.)
Anyway, my point being to let you know what a 2 sentence story looks like, and how much fun they can be. Well, except mine, lol. Mine tend to be a little darker than the one posted above. But I wrote up a whole slew of 2 sentence stories because A.C. wants to feature them on his website, one per day. He asked a bunch of his writer friends to send some in, so I sent some of my older ones in and also some I wrote today.
Now speaking of writing today, I should be working on the short story for the anthology i mentioned earlier, but I keep putting it off. I shouldn’t be doing that because the deadline for getting stories in is fast approaching. It will be July 18th, the day before my birthday. That’s not very far away at all. I don’t know why I keep procrastinating it, but I do.Well I will stop doing that soon, and usually when I sit down to write I end up writing quite a bit at once, so hopefully I can get the whole thing knocked out soon. I’ve got the story outlined, and even if I don’t end up getting published in the anthology, I would like to finish the story just to prove to myself I can write something longer than 2 sentences.
One other thing of note not related to writing. Today was my last day at my old sales job. Starting Monday (after a 1 day weekend I’ll be moving up to the technical support department. I can’t wait! It’s so close now!
